The Art of Winning

I was riding in a jeep last January 19, 2012. I came from a defeat in a certain game called "DOTA". It was quite the hit of today's LAN-game. It's a game where you try to defend your base where your tree of life can be found with your chosen hero.

While I'm on my way home, many things came into my mind, and one of those is how our team captain reacted after we loosed in that game. He was so disappointed of what happen and he seldom speaks when we ride home. I just realized that he was totally serious in winning, not because he was afraid of defeat but he really love that game.

Everyone of us have our own scrimmage, sports, love, family, friends, money, politics, school, works and career. And we always want to win in every battle that we have. But, little we do realize that in our urge of having the trophy in our hand we sacrifice other in expense of our own goal.

I remember the tragedy that happen in " Maguindanao Massacre" it was a sad event in the Philippines and recorded as the worst political killings in the said election wherein a lot of people has been murdered. The reason was the strong desire to win over the election of governor of the province. It was the desire of power, that someone badly needed to win.

In our daily life, we also tend to sacrifice people in our desire to be at the top. In school some of us might go to the point in selling your classmates to your professors or teachers about their bad mouthing when they are not around. In trades of this, your teacher will be at your side and he/she might give you a high grades. ( I experienced this when I was in high school).

In love , others could tell lies about their adversaries and what worst is ask somebody to kill that person in order to win your love one. ( well, we often see this in movie but it also happen in reality. ) In sports, we go to the point of hurting our opponents, just to have our advantage in the game. And when it came to money, we tend to sacrifice everything, our pride, our friends, our virtues and what's worst is we sacrifice our families. There were a lot of stories of a broken family and the roots were money. And my family was one of those.

I remember my Economics principle about pareto efficient, it tells that " One will be better off and the other will be worse off. " The art of winning did not ever wish that someone would be worst off. It was an art where we did our best, give out our all and strive for the top. Every people strives for glory. Everyone of us have our flaming hearts that desire to be victorious. No one, tells that the art of winning is abominable. It was an art of measuring our capability as person as an individual.

But the desire to win is not something that we shouldn't put in our mind, but be put in our heart. With care and love try to win while thinking of others. Try to win without hurting someone.

Sooner, that I realized that my team captain really loves that game. Although he might be telling us bad words when we loosed on a game, he didn't let anyone to get hurt or feel and as for forgiveness afterwards.

Maybe if we put love in every battle that we face, no one would get hurt. The art of winning is a warm art, that should be enjoyed by everybody.
